Less Noise More God

#lessnoisemoreGOD is all about wanting to hear from God. Since this post is here I am officially disconnected. I am taking a social networking sabbatical for 40days starting tonight at 9:30PM, September 1, 2009. I have a lot of noise in my life right now and really need to turn down the volume on a few things so that I can direct as much attention as I can towards God. Noise is not necessarily a bad thing but too much of it can steal your attention away from the main thing. Social networking, twitter, facebook, and my blog are the things that I feel need to turn down.

As I said this is all about paying close attention and just wanting to be in the presence of God. I feel adamantly that God has something in store for me and my family and it is going to take great faith, and complete surrender. Two things which I feel I could use a lot more of. I picked up a book a few months ago entitled, “A Call To Die” it is a 40 day devotional book that has a lot of scripture memorization and one of the requirements is to give up something that takes up your time and focus the time on God. I have been hesitant to start it simply because I like connecting with everyone I have met on twitter/facebook but I have to say goodbye for now.

So here is the deal.

  • I will not be on my facebook, twitter, or posting any blog post with the exception of 2 Book Reviews which is due for a book program I am part of and already have the books for.
  • I am unsubscribing to all of my Google reader subscriptions. I am taking facebook, and twitter apps off of my blackberry to avoid any urge to post an update.
  • Over the next forty days, my main goal is to connect with God and listen.
  • Those of you that were following along with my daily devo’s on the book of Galatians, continue to read a chapter a day using the S.O.A.P process and listen out for what God is saying. Sorry if you were all pumped about reading what I had to say for the rest of the week but….LISTEN TO GOD INSTEAD, HIS VOICE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MY THOUGHTS.
  • Whether you follow me on twitter, your friends with me on facebook, or stay up to date here at my blog, please keep me lifted that there will be no interruptions and I will hear God clearly over the next 40days.

Thanks for reading and I will tweet ya on the 11th of October no earlier than 9:30PM EST.

Galatians 2 Devotion

Here is Day 2 of the weekly challenge that I gave during the message on Sunday Night. You can read the recap of that message, Stopping One Night Stands here. You can also Check out Monday’s reading here.

//Scripture//
Galatians 2:7,10
7 On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews. 10 All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.

//Observation//
Paul’s was entrusted to preach the gospel to the gentiles. The common goal between those that were preaching to Gentiles and those to the Jews were that the poor would be remembered.

//Application//
Remember that taking the word to the streets is reaching out to the poor. Those less fortunate. Remember the poor. They will be receptive to the Gospel.

//Prayer//
God help me to reach out to those who are considered outcasts, to others. Allow me to constantly be reminded that Jesus came to preach the Gospel to the poor. Each of us at one time has been poor. It may have not been monetarily poor but Spiritually poor and broken and by your grace you completed me. The type of wealth you give is far greater than worldly possessions but rather eternal. Allow me to be a positive example and eager to help the poor emotionally and physically.
